OUR STORY
Anneth Farm was founded in 2016 by married duo and agrarian dreamers Chris and Stan Vuksic.
Chris had always wanted to farm and studied agriculture in university. Coming from a working class background, she realized that farming alone could not actually get her the farm of her dreams. She switched her degree to medicine with the long game goal of getting the farm one day. She met Stan in their joint program at UBC. Stan’s family worked the land back in Montenegro, in Eastern Europe, for centuries. Growing food is in his blood.
In a short time, Chris and Stan revived the farm’s market garden and became North Saanich Farmers Market’s #1 production vendor. They hosted their own farm stand on the drive way of Anneth + welcomed people daily to the land.
After eight years of full-time farming, family and health needs took Chris and Stan away from the farm. They assessed the avenues they had to keep Anneth in farm mode: start a co-op? sell the land privately? entrust the land to a farm stewardship?
That’s where Mara and Mark came in.
Mara’s company Fern + Roe has been based at Anneth Farm since 2021. She met her future husband Mark that year, and while waiting for him to move to Canada to build their life together, she approached Chris with a question.
“We might have to move off island to buy our own farm, but we love it here….Do you have a succession plan?”
That’s when Anneth 2.0 got started.
Mara and Mark took over the main operations of Anneth in the spring of 2024. Chris and Stan live at and work the land part-time. We are in a transition phase. Stay with us for the continued updates + growth as Anneth takes on a new form.
Some changes underfoot:
a large portion of the food market garden has been converted to a willow farm, for basketry (Mark’s craft) and hide tanning (our shared craft)
the old Cotswold sheep flock has moved on. We now have Romneys and Babydolls. We will continue to produce Chris’ fibre art and offer lamb meat sales. In addition, we will have our own flock’s tanned hdies for sale when the time comes.
the horse boarding has expanded. Click here to get on our waitlist.
the farmers market and farm stand are on pause as the tilled land lays fallow for a few seasons. Join our mailing list to get news of fresh blueberries, garlic, and extras as they are available.
