Anneth Farmhouse Sales -Update
Happy New (and hopefully improved) Year to you all! If you didn’t have a chance to see our Christmas video you can find it here:
https://vimeo.com/494249586
As we are still facing significant and needed restrictions due to COVID, we wanted to update you on our farmhouse sales and how to access our winter produce. As some of you know, our December, January and February markets are cancelled as we await the recommendations from Dr. Henry and the arrival of a vaccine for our vulnerable population. We initially thought we might open our online store again for the next couple of months, but that just seemed so impersonal somehow for a farm like ours, so her’s what we want to do…. Below you wil find some of the products we have available over the winter months. The eggs will be out at our West Saanich Roadside stand most days and there is a box for payment. They are $6.00 per dozen at present. To check on availability or to order any of the other items, please just send us an email at annethfarm@gmail.com. That way we can have a conversation and find out what you need and when you need it by. Many of the products are pictured above…
1) Eggs 6.00/dozen - avaiilable at roadside stand
2) Herb pots: Fresh Genovese Basil, Thai Basil, Thyme and Oregano growing in 4 inch pots. Perfect for your kitchen windowsill. $3.00 each.
3) Fresh Kale: ( for your winter source of Iron, vitamin C, Folate, and omega 3s ) $4.00/bunch
4) Dried beans: Our famous beans for soaking and slow baking with your favourite ingredients- just check our recipes tab for how to cook. $6.50/pound
4) Spaghetti squash: $2.00/pound
5) Lamb: We have a number of cuts available, including ground ($11.50/pound) cubed stew ($13.00/pound), merguez sausage ($10.00/pound)-roasts and chops. (pricing upon request).
6) Wool dryer balls: Personalized white: $30.00 for 3. Gorgeous Cotswold with felted curls (from our lovely ram Cinnamon) $25.00 for 3.
7) Bespoke Anneth Aprons ( these are all individual and take time to create) $30.00-$50.00 depending on the fabric. A friend of mine likes to describe these as “the apron you put on to entertain after the messy cooking is done!).
8) Homemade 9 inch fruit pies- (must be ordered at least 1 week in advance) - can be pre baked or frozen/ready to bake -$25.00 each
So let’s try this new way for a while and see how it works. This might seem like a novel and less than efficient approach to marketing, but we really want to connect with each and every one of you during this bleak and grey time of the year, made more so by the pandemic induced isolation we are experiening.

The Ballad of the Rotten Field Tomato
And so it draws to a close. Stan and I are always sad at the sight of the field tomatoes at the end of their life cycle because there are always those ones that didn’t quite make it. So let’s immortalize them in song…
The Ballad of the Rotten Field Tomato
There are tales told of West Coast Gold
That ripens on the vine
The tomatoes sweet that we love to eat
In the lovely summer time
In the winter chill, they were seeds until
In the potting soil they lay
Under UV light that was shining bright
They began to find their way
They grew and grew, first an inch or two
And were fed and pruned with care
’Til they got so tall that they heard the call
Of the soil and the fresh spring air.
Now they heard folks say “There’s a different way
For tomatoes grown elsewhere”
All electronic and hydroponic
And no sunshine or fresh air
But for these brave plants, there are worms and ants
And weather fair and foul
There’s untimely cold and the risk of mold
And winds that whip and howl
But they still survive and begin to thrive
And the blossoms all appear
Then fruit so fine it bends the vine
Under skies so blue and clear
And the people eat of the fruit so sweet
And the bushels are overflowing
And the market place keeps a bustling pace
While the vines just keep on growing
But when autumn comes, there are still the ones
That haven’t made the grade
And the farmer’s field, once it gives its yield
Leaves fruit to fall and fade.
But though inside ones have eternal suns
And are “perfect” all year long
They are never as sweet as the fruit we eat
That are told of in my song
So though they die under chilly skies
and it seems like such a shame
We can sit and dream of a summer scene
When that flavour comes again.
